Claims need evidence, and can change

The best answer you have today is only the best answer so far.

The idea

Someone says "this wall holds up the roof." Ask: how do you know? Maybe they read the drawing. Maybe they tapped the wall. Maybe they guessed. The reason behind a claim is its evidence, and evidence can be strong or weak. The best answer you have today is only the best answer so far. When better evidence arrives, an honest thinker changes their mind, and says so.

Why it matters

AI tools give answers without showing their evidence. If you cannot ask "how do you know?", you cannot tell a good answer from a confident one.

See it in the studio

On a site visit, the old plan shows a well in the north corner. You walk there and find it filled in, with a tree growing on top. The plan was evidence. What you saw is stronger evidence. The plan loses.

Watch for this

Thinking that changing your answer means you were wrong to begin with. It means you were listening. Holding on to a wrong answer is the real mistake.

Try it

Write down one thing you believe about your school building — the oldest part, the tallest point, which side floods. Then find two pieces of evidence: a person, a photograph, a drawing. Did your belief survive?

Prove it

Take one claim you heard today. Tell a friend what evidence backs it, and what would make you drop it.

How it works

Scientists do this for a living: claim, evidence, test, revise. Your science syllabus calls it the nature of scientific knowledge. Later on this map the same habit comes back with a studio name, verification: checking an AI answer against something real before you build on it.
