Read the whole set of data

The pattern across twelve answers tells you what the machine tends to do.

When to use

Any time you have a pile of results and someone asks "so what happened?" Ten test scores. Twenty thermometer readings from the classroom. A dozen pictures from the same AI request. The answer is never in one of them. It is in the whole pile.

The method

Lay all the results out where you can see them at once — a tally, a bar chart, a row of pictures on the table. Then ask three questions. What is typical? Most of the results sit around here. How spread out are they? Close together means the thing is steady; far apart means it is not. What stands out? One result far from the others is worth a second look, not a headline.

Watch for this

Picking the one result you like and calling it "the result." A single good picture from an AI tool does not mean the tool is good. A single bad one does not mean it is bad. Neither one is the set.

Try it

Ask an AI image tool for the same thing ten times — "a courtyard with one tree." Lay all ten out in a grid. Now say what is typical (what did most of them do?), what is spread out (where did they disagree?), and which one stands out. You have just read a set.

Prove it

Take any ten numbers from your week — marks, minutes, temperatures. Draw them as a chart. Point to what is typical and to what stands out, and say why a chart shows it and a single number cannot.

How it works

In maths this is called data handling: tallies, bar charts, averages, range. On this map the same habit has a grown-up job. When a machine gives you twelve answers, the pattern across the twelve tells you what the machine tends to do. That is far more useful than any one answer. Later cards call the twelve a batch, and reading it a contact sheet.
