Hand over in a stated state

An unlabelled render travels as if it were a resolved drawing.

The dilemma

The structural engineer needs the scheme by Friday. What you have is a generated view the client loved, a massing model that is half decided, and a plan you drew yourself. Send the lot with "scheme attached", or label each?

The choices

Send the pack and let the render's polish speak for it. Or write a cover note that gives every file a status: rough idea or resolved design; generated or drawn; checked or unchecked; and what the consultant may rely on. The generated view goes marked "atmosphere only — not dimensionally reliable." The plan goes marked "drawn, checked, current."

The consequence

An unlabelled render travels as if it were a resolved drawing. The engineer sizes a beam to a span the image implied and nobody drew. The fiction is now in the structural scheme, and when it surfaces, the architect who sent the image answers for it.

The case

A student sends a generated courtyard view to a services consultant for a duct layout. The image shows a clear double-height void. The plan has a mezzanine. The consultant routes ducts through the void. Two weeks lost, and a conversation about whose drawing was the drawing.

How it works
