The route

  1. The prompt is a brief — A prompt needs the same discipline as a brief to a consultant or a junior.
  2. Name the job, not the deliverable — The purpose comes first in every brief, because a deliverable alone has no way to fail.
  3. Stated, inferred, unknown, assumed — Label every line, because an unlabelled brief turns its assumptions into facts within a week.
  4. The seven-slot brief — An unexamined slot is a decision you have handed to the model without noticing.
  5. The six-layer reasoning brief — A reasoning brief has six layers, and the model fills any layer you skip.
  6. Criteria, or only plausibility — Criteria go in the brief before generation, and the verification stays outside the model.
  7. The red pen is authorship — Marking up the output is the act that turns generated material into authored work.
  8. Four risks before you upload anything — Answer privacy, confidentiality, copyright and security separately before any file leaves the studio.
